Rethinking Work Life Balance

I love the weekends. I love brunch, bike rides, runs in the park, errands with my husband, long stretches of time to read and drink coffee. Since I started working at twenty two, I’ve experienced Friday Euphoria and Sunday Dread.  The best place to spend a weekend: Bayou St. John Friday I am chipper -- I stop and get an iced coffee on my way to work, I am relaxed and easy going all day, I smile at everyone and wish them a wonderful weekend as I skip out of work promptly at the end of the day. Then, on Sunday around 2:00, my chest gets tight, I have a knot in my stomach, and there have certainly been stretches of time where sleep feels like a long shot. What a crazy way to live:: to work for five days to enjoy just two.  In my pursuit of something better, I’ve done lots of reading on work/life balance. I started leaving work as early as possible. No emails once I got home. I jumped on the “self-care” bandwagon. This was a nice sentiment, but it didn't lead to the peace I
